So it begins

So it begins that I have a blog for my photography, from the first time I picked up a camera I knew I loved taking pictures. My parents wouldn't let me use the point and shoot camera when I was little because I'd waste all the film taking pictures of dogs/cats, It wasn't until they had gotten a digital camera they let me go full out on what I loved to do. If I told you how many pictures I had of cats, kittens, my dogs, you'd laugh (maybe?). I'll be honest, when I look back at all the pictures I took of my cats and kittens it gets kind of boring.  Anyways, taking pictures of people really didn't start until I graduated high school and got a new camera for my birthday, and I love it! One of my favorite things to do is volunteer for Rescue Rovers to take pictures of foster dogs looking for forever homes!

NOW, last year I did a contest called "My Miracle Mutt" it was people that submitted a awesome story about their dog, either the way he/she was rescued or just an neat thing they did/do. We posted it on our site and had everyone vote for their favorite story, we got a lot of people voting.

Fox the Miracle Mutt - For those who haven't read the story.
(The following is about my daughter with special needs writing about finding "her dog", and I wanted to give a little background information so you can see what an incredible story this is. JulieLynn was born with a condition that caused up to 20 seizures an hour. At four months, she had to have half of her brain removed, which left her without the ability to speak. Throughout all of this, her dog Friday –shepherd, retriever, chow mix- was always by her side. On nights when seizures were really bad, he guarded her at the foot of her crib. They loved each other so much, and his patience with her was beautiful to watch. The day after Thanksgiving 2006, Friday wasn’t himself and the ER visit showed he had an undiagnosed tumor that had ruptured. He died that day. We moved to Utah shortly afterwards. Once we settled in, we thought it would be good for her to have another dog, but not until she was ready. For years, we would go every few months to the animal shelters and play with the dogs. Each time, when I asked her if this was “her dog”, she would say no. And even though we have had two dogs since Friday (one passed away), neither has had the close bond with JulieLynn like Friday did. Recently, JulieLynn has been asking about wanting to find “her dog”. “My dog is near”, she wrote. So we went to the Super Adoption Event, but she said he wasn’t here. The next day, she insisted that we go back. We walked in and within a few minutes, we saw Fox- this long haired, cinnamon colored dog that made me think of Friday. As we went over to him, he saw us, came straight up to JulieLynn, and climbed into her lap, and licked her. As we walked around, Fox just laid in her lap as comfortable as could be. When Fox met our other dog, Gus, they immediately liked each other, and are great friends. This time, when I asked her if she had found “her dog“, she wrote “YES!“)
JulieLynn,10,is very bright and communicates through signs, pointing, and writing. This is what she wrote about finding “her dog“ again. “I have been searching for “My Dog“ for half my life, ever since Friday died. Friday never meant to go away, but he was very sick and the cancer won. He loved me so much and hardly ever left my side. I would go to shelters with my mom for years, every time hoping that we would find him. We never did. One day a power made me have to go back to the adoption place we had been the day before. Fox just came up to me and climbed into my wheelchair and licked my face like he knew me forever. It was then I knew I had found who I had been waiting for.“

I'm thinking of doing it again this year, so start thinking of a awesome story about your awesome canine. So keep your eyes open for more details coming!!
